A Carlin-Type Gold Deposit
The Bald Mountain Property covers 188 unpatented claims totaling 3872 acres and is accessible by road from the town of Crescent Valley, Nevada. The property is located in a geographic and geologic area that is well known for hosting the most productive gold mines in the United States. The most significant gold deposits in the Bald Mountain area with respect to proximity and similarity are Pipeline and Cortez 15 km to the north, which have produced 2 million ounces of gold, and are still actively being explored for additional gold resources. Current reserves for the Pipeline and Cortez district total 13 Moz as published by Barrick Gold. The Toiyabe mine, a Carlin type deposit 2 km to the west of Bald Mountain, contained 89,000 oz gold and was mined in the early 1990's.
Known mineralization at the nearby Toiyabe mine is typical of Carlin type gold mineralization. Disseminated gold mineralization is hosted in the Roberts Mountain Formation along and below the Roberts Mountain thrust.
In July 2008, Sundance Minerals Ltd purchased a 100% interest in the Bald Mountain property. The target at Bald Mountain is a Carlin-type deposit in the carbonate, lower plate rocks below the Roberts Mountain Thrust. Gravity and induced polarization surveys indicate that the target lower plate rocks are within 200 meters of the surface in the southwest portion of the claim block. In late 2011, Sundance undertook a ZTEM helicopter-borne survey over Bald Mountain. Results are being processed by Mira Geoscience. An initial 100 m block interpretation indicates an antiformal conductive horizon in the subsurface suggesting the Roberts Mountain Thrust may exist on the property.
